Confessions of a Madman

So I decided to stop consuming caffeine the other day. I've been contemplating it for some time as I've been having irregular sleep patterns and quality thereof for the last couple of weeks. I'm also super paranoid about getting kidney stones, even though I drink at least a liter of water every day.

This is the beginning of Day Two.

It's weird because I didn't know just how much I rely on it until I cut it out. As I was driving into work today I thought, "Wow, pretty soon my ass end is going to fall out. I'll just have a cup of coffee and everything'll be fine." Well, I'm not drinking coffee now so that theory's out the window.

I'll keep you posted.

It's going pretty well. I haven't really noticed any difference, which kind of supports my theory that I didn't need it. Also, I fall asleep waaay faster at night I'm less tired during the day because I sleep better.

I still like soda, though, so I've been drinking Diet Rite. It has no calories, no caffeine and no sugar. It's the methadone of sodas. I've been calling it, "Sodadone." Since I've been drinking diet soda for several months the transition wasn't too bad and drinking a sodadone at least scratches the soda itch, for the most part.

Well, maybe you are just drinking too much coffee...or too late in the day.

I used to drink coffee constantly...then I realized I wasn't really enjoying it all that much.

So now I drink two, at the most, three cups a day...and all before 8 a.m.

Man, that first cup is wonderful!!

Maybe you should re-think this.

My average work day consisted of a cup of coffee, maybe two, in the morning, then a diet coke at lunch. I wasn't sucking it down all day and it didn't seem like I was consuming all that much.

But it's been 9 days now and I don't really miss it. I was never a huge coffe fan, though I like a cup or a mocha frappucino from time to time. I'm definitely sleeping better and it's easier to wake up in the mornings, something with which I used to struggle mightily.

I think I may drink it on the weekends, though, to ensure that I have lots of weekend fun.
